Statement in light of failed Amendment 3 campaign promises that abortion would become accessible again on December 5

December 6, 2024

What’s Next issued the following statement on Amendment 3’s effective date:

“In the past days, we’ve seen Planned Parenthood spokespeople report an uptick in patient confusion because abortion remains inaccessible in Missouri despite the voter-approved Amendment 3. This was an avoidable problem these very organizations caused by making grand promises they knew very well they could not keep.

“As pro-abortion experts, we rang the alarm bells long ago - that restoring abortion access would be a long and complicated road. It’s disappointing enough that Amendment 3 leaders refuse to challenge the state’s insurance bans and parental involvement mandates that harm young people. The confusion they’ve sown by backpedaling on their promises in the aftermath of Amendment 3 adds insult to injury. We call on Amendment 3 leaders to do better by patients and by the frontline responders who continue to do the work of ensuring people who need an abortion know where and how to get it.”
